A collection of 31 items (originals, copies, summaries, and translations) relating chiefly to the religious and civil history of Durango and other portions of the Provincias Internas, from 1553 to the early nineteenth century; compiled under the personal supervision of Ramírez, a native of Durango. Noteworthy topics concern the military and colonizing activities of Francisco de Ibarra, governor of New Galicia, including two Mss. by Faustino Chimalpopocatl Galicia on Aztec participation in the 1563 expedition into New Vizcaya and distribution of duties among the Indians of Nombre de Dios; missionary work of the 16th and 17th centuries, with special attention to the Jesuits, Gonzalo de Tapia and Martín Pérez and Luis Velarde and from the history of Andrés Pérez de Rivas; establishment of Nombre de Dios; the Ávila-Santarén colonizing and missionary expedition; extracts from Juan Agustín Morfi's Viage de Indios relating to Teodoro de Croix; data on mining; powers of the Commandant General of the Provincias Internas; Antonio Cordero's report on the Apaches; and an expediente on the powers of Jacobo de Ugarte as commandant general.

Born in the province of Asturias, Spain, Juan Agustín Morfi (d. 1783) immigrated to America around 1755. In 1761, he became a Franciscan friar in Mexico City, where he also taught theology at the Colegio de Santa Cruz de Tlaltelolco. Morfi was selected to accompany Commandant General of the Provincias Internas Teodoro de Croix on an expedition to inspect the provinces of New Spain in 1777.
